Bjorn has established a reputation as one of Sydney’s leading racehorse trainers, consistently producing winning results from a relatively small team of horses. In August of 2011, Bjorn was granted a training license by Racing NSW and commenced Bjorn Baker Racing with only two boxes on-course at Warwick Farm. It was a challenging introduction to the competitive Sydney training ranks with initial disappointment. However, Bjorn refocused himself and purchased a gelding, Sky Gaze, for $6,000.

A BRIEF TIMELINE.

  • 2008/2009 Season

    Entered into a partnership with father Murray Baker in Cambridge, NZ.

  • 28th March 2009

    The Heckler wins Manawatu Sires Produce 1400m Group 1, marking the first Group 1 victory.

  • 30th October 2010

    Lion Tamer wins the Group 1 VRC Derby by 8 lengths.

  • July 2011

    Moved to Warwick Farm with two horses.

  • August 2011

    Granted training license by NSW Racing.

  • 26th September 2011

    Achieved the first victory at Bathurst with Sky Gaze, a horse bought as a tried horse.

  • 22nd December 2012

    Stable quinellas Inglis Nursery with Twilight Royale 1st and Fuerza 2nd, both purchased by Bjorn for $45,000 and $32,000.

  • 9th March 2013

    Twilight Royale wins Group 2 VRC Sires Produce, marking the first Group win in own right.

  • 11th January 2014

    Unencumbered wins Magic Millions 2yo Classic after being purchased in 2013.

  • 20th May 2016

    Music Magnate wins first sole Australian Group 1. Bought by Bjorn at NZB 2013 for $45,000 NZD.

  • 24th August 2019

    Samadoubt wins Group 1 Winx Stakes.

  • DECEMBER 2020

    Expands to 100 boxes at Warwick Farm.

  • 2020/2021 Season

    Finishes 3rd in the Sydney Metro Trainers Premiership.

  • 25th March 2023

    Arapaho wins Group 1 Tancred Stakes.

  • April 2023

    Overpass wins the Inaugural The Quokka.

  • 4th November 2023

    Ozzmosis wins Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes 1200m.

  • 4th December 2023

    Overpass wins Group 1 Winterbottom.

  • 2022/2023 Season

    Achieves significant success, winning over $10 million in prizemoney ($11,762,080.00).
